Florida's sun and rain are hard on wood decks. A little maintenance goes a long way toward keeping yours safe, good-looking, and long-lasting.
Seasonal maintenance
- Sweep and rinse regularly to remove grit and mildew
- Inspect boards, railings, and fasteners each year
- Re-stain or reseal every 1–3 years as needed
- Replace any cracked or soft boards promptly
Why staining & sealing matters
Sealant protects the wood from UV fading and moisture — the two things that age a Florida deck fastest. A properly sealed deck can last 15–20 years.
Signs it's time for attention
- Water no longer beads on the surface
- Graying or faded color
- Splintering or soft spots
